I love this movie I love this little boy I bought the DVD first and then the book I truly enjoyed both The actor, Alex Etel, has grown into a teenager, but he will remain that sweet little boy forever on the DVD You will smile and have tears both as you watch the film When you read the book it is so easy to visualize the characters I cared about these people and wanted them to do well You will too And if you want to feel good when a movie is over, buy the DVD too. This is a great book for all ages It s very well written and so original you will remember it forever Damian has to be one of the best characters to appear in a book in years The book somehow manages to be hysterically funny, achingly sad and spiritually uplifting The excellent movie adaptation closely follows the book though the book has depth and background than the movie can provide I m actually not sure which came first the book or the screenplay but they enhance each other and Frank Cottrell Boyce is the author of both. It s unusual to find a really original story these days, but this is one of them The characters are well defined and sympathetic I bought the audio book the reader is superb and does different voices for each character I just love it I actually bought this as a replacement because I lost my other copy and have listened to it several times over the past few years A keeper If you like this one, try another of his books, Framed It does help if you are familiar with some of the British terms though. I love, love, love this book and re read it regularly Like C.S Lewis Chronicles of Narnia, it is a children s book that speaks to adults I have the print book and the movie I originally gave this edition only 4 stars because it is advertised as having bonus material, including discussion questions by the author Disappointingly, it does not have bonus material I only bought the Kindle version to get the discussion questions, so I didn t get what I wanted.
