Postwar Armoured Fighting Vehicles: 1945-Present (The Essential Vehicle Identification Guide) I was underwhelmed by this book I was expecting of a vehicle per page type reference work, with detail on each vehicle Instead what you get is a brief narrative describing which vehicles were used in certain conflicts, illustrated with a single side view drawing of the vehicles. The narrative could be interesting if it told about the tactics used, a description of the battles fought instead of simply naming them, e.g 73 Easting , yeah, but what happened or included a map there are none Instead you get a very superficial listing of what units deployed to what wars Speaking of units, the book includes a TOE for some sample units but it s done with a little tank icon for each tank, so when it shows the 4th Dragoon Regiment for instance, you get 24 little pictures of tanks, which wastes most of a page for something that could just as clearly be described in a couple of sentences.Other problems The back cover says the drawings are all to a common scale, but based on my measurements the drawings seem to fluctuate between 1 71 to 1 100 For instance the Bradley IFV and the SAS Land Rover are the same size illustration, though the Bradley is much larger in real life The statistics are not consistent between different vehicles, for instance length is sometimes specified as hull only, sometimes as over gun , and sometimes not mentioned Weight is given in kg, lbs, tons and tonnes, the reader is left to do the conversions himself. If you just want to see what a particular vehicle looks like, from the side anyway, this will suffice But for much than that, this is disappointing I wish I had a better book to recommend, if you do, please leave a comment The Essential Vehicle Identification Guide Post War Armoured Fighting Vehicles Present Offers An Highly Illustrated Guide To The World S Main Armoured Units And Their Fighting Vehicles Used Since The End Of World War II This Compact Volume Includes Sample Unit Structures And Orders Of Battle From Divisional To Corps And Army Level, Providing An Organisational Context For Key Wars Fought Since Organised Chronologically, The Book Offers A Comprehensive Survey Of Units And Their Armoured Fighting Vehicles By War, Including Korea, Vietnam, The Arab Israeli Conflicts, Indo Pakistan Wars, The Cold War In Europe, The Yugoslav Civil War, The Iraq Wars And Afghanistan All The Major And Many Minor Tanks Are Featured, With Variations Of The T , M Abrams And Centurion, For Example, As Well As Personnel Carriers And Engineering And Mine Clearing Vehicles Lesser Known Models Such As Armoured Cars, Half Tracks, Trucks And Amphibious Vehicles Combine To Make This A Rounded Compendium Of Modern Armoured Fighting Vehicles Packed With Than Full Colour Artworks And Photographs With Exhaustive Specifications, The Essential Vehicle Identification Guide Post War Armoured Fighting Vehicles Present Is A Key Reference Guide For Military Modellers And Vehicle Enthusiasts A couple sentences per vehicle, it is a whirlwind of small amounts of information on a bunch of similar vehicles I prefer the larger encyclopedia style format. Its extremely interesting learned a lot of stuff i didn t know previously a really good book. Great product, good price and fast delivery Nice book, it will be a gift, but know they will love it Came packaged nice with no damage to it and on time.
